What was your reaction to coming 2nd in CareLineLive’s Home Care Hero Award?
Oh! I was really excited! Being recognised feels really overwhelming, it’s hard to put into words, it feels so good to know that all the hard work has paid off. Basically it’s not about me, it’s about the whole team coming together and making an impact on service user’s lives.
What is your role at Living Well Homecare?
I’m an administrator and quality monitor and also a carer. I’m responsible for overseeing the quality of services delivered and to make sure that everything is working well between the service users and the team, then making sure we have compliance and regulation in place. It’s also involves me doing spot checks, welfare checks and them me pulling it all together.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
Marie has given me the opportunity to be proactive and adaptable which is great, whatever she needs me to do I’m happy to do it!
My day involves taking calls from family members and from service users providing reassurance, addressing any concerns. I make sure that we have a quality service by knowing exactly what each individual using the service requires and that their needs are being met. I’m involved in the managing of the rota and CareLineLive has helped me a lot to learn the process.
It’s a wide role, I still work in the field and so I have my regular interaction with service users. It’s those interactions with the families and the service users that gives me information to feedback to management so that we can come together to support our service users.
What aspects of your role do you enjoy?
I enjoy making an impact by encouraging people. As human beings, sometimes we just need a little to push, just a little encouragement. For me, I enjoy knowing that I make a difference and especially supporting services users to improve. I like making people believe in themselves. It doesn’t matter whether that win is big or small. It starts with day to day activities, being able to encourage those who can, to do what they can. Making sure that service users have a decent conversation is very important to me.
I feel that each day I know I have made a difference and that I have made someone smile little, through small or big things. It’s just me contributing to their happiness and putting smiles on their faces, it’s fantastic.
What challenges do you face in your role?
I have numerous tasks, and not everything can be organised into a checklist. The role is new for me compared to what I’m used to, but very interesting and I have lots of support to help me get through every day.
How does CareLineLive’s technology help you in your role?
CareLineLive has helped tremendously. I can look into the care plans which gives me a better understanding of the individual person. I have a great understanding of the care packages and I know exactly how I can help each person. I’m learning every day, CareLineLive is really helpful as I have all the tools that I need.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have a 10 year old son who loves to draw, I really enjoy spending time with him. We watch movies together. I like educational movies and also romantic ones, that’s my main way of relaxing.
