The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Inspire Inclusion,” emphasising the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society. This campaign underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality, calling for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected. It also encourages everyone to recognise the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalised communities.

Social care is continually shouting from the rooftops about the inspirational women that are working to reshape the social care sector in very difficult circumstances. In fact, Skills for Care’s summary of domiciliary care for 2023 states that 82% of the workforce identify as female, an incredible statistic! It’s empowering for women in all roles within the industry to see that the quest for equality and diversity is inspiring women to be influential mentors and role models to achieve great things. Women are being recognised as strong leaders in business with The Woman Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards showing the resilience and determination of women within the sector from directors, founders, corporate managers to charity workers and care workers and women rising through the industry.

When women aren’t present, we must ask: “If not, why not?”

When women are discriminated against, we must call out poor practice.

When the treatment of women is not equitable, we must take action.

And we must do this each time, every time.
