Celebrating a true Home Care Hero: Kirsty’s dedication and compassion

Caring for others is more than just a job, it’s a calling. For Kirsty, a dedicated carer at Sunny Lives Support based in Southampton, being adaptable and committed has become second nature. Her unwavering commitment and kindness have not only touched the lives of her clients but also earned her the prestigious title of winner CareLineLive’s Home Care Hero Award for Spring 2025.

Celebrating the nomination of Director Sue Waterfield: A joy to share

Sue Waterfield, director of Sunny Lives Support, nominated Kirsty for this well deserved recognition and described her as “just amazing.” Despite working part-time to balance her responsibilities as a mother to two young children, Kirsty consistently steps up to help whenever needed, whether it’s evenings, weekends or even during school holidays. Her selflessness shines through in everything she does, from covering shifts for sick colleagues to offering emotional support to clients in their most vulnerable moments.

Kirsty’s Christmas kindness and dedication

One of the most touching examples of her dedication was during Christmas. Knowing that some clients had no family to celebrate with, Kirsty worked the entire day caring for them. She then went a step further by delivering a Christmas meal on Boxing Day. When asked about this, Kirsty humbly explained that her family simply celebrated Christmas a day later. Showing not just her dedication but also the values of kindness and empathy that she and her family enjoy.

Daily care and joyful moments in client support

A typical day involves assisting clients with their morning routines, personal care, medication and household tasks. But beyond these essential duties, she finds joy in the small moments, chatting with clients, sharing a laugh, and helping with errands. She recounts a moment when a client asked for help with shopping and without hesitation, she adjusted her schedule to make it happen, ensuring they felt valued and supported.

Kirsty’s resilience: Navy discipline in caregiving

Despite the challenges of caregiving, like the stress of running late or managing difficult situation, Kirsty remains unshaken. Her background in the Navy has instilled in her a sense of discipline, resilience and a “never give up” attitude. Even while dealing with personal hardships, such as the loss of her father and her mother living abroad, she continues to bring warmth and care to those who rely on her.

CareLineLive App: Clear, efficient access to information

Technology also plays a role in making her work smoother. Kirsty appreciates CareLineLive’s easy-to-use app, which allows her to access information clearly and efficiently, unlike some other companies that are reliant on paper-based systems where illegible handwriting can cause confusion.

Kirsty: A compassionate Home Care Hero

When she’s not caring for clients, Kirsty enjoys spending time with her children, taking them on outings to the zoo or exploring nature. With her dedication to both her family and her clients, she is a true example of a compassionate carer who embodies what it means to be a Home Care Hero.

Kirsty’s story is an inspiration to many, showing that small acts of kindness can make a world of difference. Her recognition as CareLineLive’s Home Care Hero is not just an award it’s a testament to the extraordinary impact she has on the lives of those around her.
