G-Cloud 14, the latest iteration of the UK Government’s successful G-Cloud procurement framework is now live. Since its inception in 2012, G-Cloud has transformed how the UK public sector accesses essential cloud-based solutions, with nearly £3 billion spent to date by local government and health sectors through G-Cloud frameworks.
So, what is G-Cloud?
G-Cloud is a procurement framework operated by Crown Commercial Services (CCS) on behalf of the UK Government. Crown Commercial Service (CCS) supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when
procuring common goods and services . G-Cloud14 consists of:
- Framework agreements with suppliers offering cloud hosting, software, and support services.
- A Digital Marketplace portal, enabling public sector buyers to find and procure these solutions quickly and efficiently.
With three main categories (or “Lots”), G-Cloud helps public sector organisations procure cloud products without lengthy tendering processes:
- Cloud hosting (lot 1)
- Cloud software (lot 2)
- Cloud support services (lot 3)
Using the G-Cloud framework means organisations can identify, shortlist, and select suppliers who meet specific needs through the Digital Marketplace. Once they’ve chosen a solution, they use a standard call-off contract template provided by CCS with all terms pre-set for ease and consistency.
