Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Ashley, and congratulations on being CareLineLive’ s March Star Carer!

What was your reaction to winning CareLineLive’s March Star Carer Award?

It was a total shock to be honest, but I am really chuffed and it’s great to be appreciated.

What aspects of being a carer do you enjoy?

I love the variety, seeing different people every day and trying to understand and service all the different needs of my clients. I feel I get so much more out of my job than what I put in – often my clients share their favourite recipes and knitting patterns with me.

How does CareLineLive’s Carer Companion App help you in your job?

We have just had training on it so we are just starting to use it.

I think overall the Carer Companion App will make my job easier and some parts of it quicker, as we will not have to trawl through the paper files. I am excited to use it and it feels like it’s the way forward.

What’s your experience of being a carer during Covid-19?

I suppose the same as anyone in the pandemic, it has been quite lonely, and it’s been hard to support people feeling lonely when you are feeling the same way. It’s frustrating as I did not have an answer for my clients with regards to what was happening and I could not fix it. Some of our clients are now anxious as we start to return to normal.

As a carer, I have had to be strong and as the numbers are going in the right direction I have just been there to reassure my clients. It’s sad to see how some of the social interactions our clients have been used to have been taken away.

How do you switch off after a hard day at work?

As a family, we walk our dog – it’s an activity that’s detached from my work and my home and it gives me the chance to rewind.
